After the fight song has been played, the Deacon has come by with a signature fist bump, and the students have filed into the library for a long week of studying before finals, we are reminded of what lays at the heart of this great place, that always heartfelt motto, Pro Humanitate.

On this Pro Humanitate Day, we  come together as a single Wake Forest – students, parents, friends, staff, faculty, and alumni alike – under one goal of fighting hunger in our communities far and wide.  While we would love to join each and every Deac in his or her volunteer efforts, 42′ buses just don’t move that quickly, so we decided to head down to Charlotte to join the fight against hunger with our neighbors down  I-77S.

The day began at Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, where we spent the early afternoon sorting and packaging donated food and household items. We had over 30 alumni, parents, and friends out there dedicated to living in the Wake Forest spirit and making a difference in their community.

Among the many Demon Deacons was Crystal Sellers, an alumna and current Wake Forest parent. Throughout the day, she reflected on her Wake Forest experience and the meaningful ways she has been able to lead her life following graduation adding, “Wake Forest adds value to your life after you graduate.”

As Pro Humanitate Day projects continue throughout this week, and even a couple of events in May, we look forward to hearing of many stories about how Demon Deacons everywhere are showing the world that #GoodWearsBlack.

At the end of the day, after the work was done, laughs shared, and memories made, we were fortunate to reflect on our many blessings and thankful to be a part of a University that commits itself to humanity each and every day.  Keep changing the world, you guys. And as always, Go Deacs!
